Japan · 2006 · studio

Founded in 2006 in Osaka by former Capcom and Clover Studio luminaries Shinji Mikami, Hideki Kamiya, Atsushi Inaba, and Tatsuya Minami, PlatinumGames is the premier authority on pure 3D stylish character action. Through masterpieces like Bayonetta, Vanquish, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and NieR: Automata, the studio perfected high-speed, 60-FPS kinetic combat.

PlatinumGames (2006)

Rising from the Ashes of Clover Studio

Following Capcom's closure of Clover Studio (responsible for Ōkami and Viewtiful Joe), its core creators reunited to form PlatinumGames, driven by a philosophy of pure auteur game design. A publishing deal with Sega yielded the rocket-sliding shooter Vanquish and the critically revered Bayonetta (2009), introducing the famous frame-critical 'Witch Time' dodge mechanic.

The NieR: Automata Sensation and Nintendo Partnerships

Collaborating with director Yoko Taro and Square Enix, Platinum developed NieR: Automata (2017). The game seamlessly blended bullet-hell dynamics with hack-and-slash combat and sold over 8 million copies. Concurrently, Platinum forged strong ties with Nintendo, publishing Bayonetta 2, Bayonetta 3, and Astral Chain as celebrated platform exclusives.
