Media Molecule (2006)
Champions of 'Play, Create, Share', LittleBigPlanet, and Dreams
Founded in 2006 in Guildford, UK, by former Lionhead developers Mark Healey, Alex Evans, Kareem Ettouney, and David Smith, Media Molecule democratized user-generated content on consoles. Creators of PlayStation icon Sackboy in LittleBigPlanet, the tactile paper craft adventure Tearaway, and the creative engine Dreams, the studio stands as a lighthouse of creative imagination.
LittleBigPlanet and the Power of Creative Play
Revealed at GDC 2007, LittleBigPlanet (2008) introduced knitted hero Sackboy and a tactile physics sandbox of wood, sponge, and fabric. By equipping every player with the exact level-editing and logic tools used by the developers, Media Molecule cultivated a passionate global community that uploaded over 10 million playable stages.
Tearaway and the Dreams Digital Art Studio
After innovating with the PlayStation Vita's physical hardware in Tearaway (2013), the studio spent nearly a decade crafting Dreams (2020) on PlayStation 4. Dreams operated as a complete digital development suite, enabling players to sculpt 3D assets, record musical scores, code visual logic, and publish full video games directly from a DualShock controller.
