GRIS (2018)
Nomada Studio and Conrad Roset's Barcelona Watercolor Marvel: A Poetic Symphony on Grief
Created in Barcelona by indie team Nomada Studio under the evocative artistic vision of acclaimed painter Conrad Roset and published by Devolver Digital in 2018, GRIS is widely revered as an apex of poetic interactive art. Following a young woman named Gris wrestling with profound sorrow, the narrative metaphorically traces the five stages of grief. Starting in a desolate, colorless monochrome desert, the world gradually blooms with vivid watercolor washes of red, green, blue, and gold as Gris’s expanding mantle manifests transformative abilities. Elevated by Barcelona ensemble Berlinist's transcendent soundtrack, GRIS captured the 'Games for Impact' accolade at The Game Awards.
Conrad Roset's Living Watercolor Canvas
Every frame was meticulously hand-drawn and colored using genuine physical watercolor inks before digital compositing. Gris' dress shapeshifts dynamically: turning into a dense granite block to withstand gales or spreading into fluid fins to swim through inverted ocean skies.
Silent Emotional Catharsis and Berlinist
Completely free of dialogue, written text, or fatal failure states, the gameplay relies entirely on environmental visual language and the soaring piano, organ, and vocal score of Berlinist to shepherd players through psychological healing.
