CellFactor: Psychokinetic Wars (2009)
Physics-Driven Arena First-Person Shooter Co-Developed in Cairo and Bogota and Published by Ubisoft
Co-developed by Cairo-based Timeline Interactive and Bogota-based Immersion Games and published worldwide by Ubisoft in June 2009 for PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, and Windows PC, CellFactor: Psychokinetic Wars adapted the 2007 Ageia PhysX hardware showcase CellFactor: Revolution into a multi-platform arena shooter combining telekinetic rigid-body combat with conventional weaponry.
Evolution from the Ageia PhysX Hardware Showcase to Seventh-Generation Consoles
The CellFactor property originated in the 2006 technical demonstration CellFactor: Combat Training and the May 2007 freeware PC release CellFactor: Revolution, engineered in collaboration with Artificial Studios to showcase dedicated PhysX physics-processing expansion cards manufactured by Ageia Technologies. While the 2007 PC build demonstrated dense real-time rigid-body destruction, cloth tearing, and fluid-particle effects, reliance on specialized add-in accelerator hardware restricted its playable audience. Following Nvidia's acquisition of Ageia, Cairo-based Timeline Interactive partnered with long-time Colombian collaborator Immersion Games in Bogota to re-architect the concept as a streamlined commercial downloadable title published globally by Ubisoft. Engineering teams refactored the physics simulation pipeline to execute natively across the multi-core Sony PlayStation 3 Cell Broadband Engine and the Microsoft Xbox 360 triple-core Xenon CPU without auxiliary hardware, launching digitally on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade in June 2009 before arriving on Windows PC.
Tri-Class Telekinetic Arena Mechanics and Cross-Continental Co-Development
Drawing structural inspiration from fast-paced late-1990s arena shooters while foregrounding environmental physics manipulation, CellFactor: Psychokinetic Wars structured combat around three asymmetric cybernetic classes. The Bishop class carries no conventional firearms, relying entirely on sustained flight, telekinetic force barriers, and the ability to uproot scattered crates, steel girders, and environmental debris to hurl as high-velocity shrapnel storms. At the opposite extreme, the robotic Guardian functions as a high-armor weapons platform capable of dual-wielding heavy artillery, executing long-distance leaps, and ramming opponents at high speed, whereas the Black Ops trooper bridges both styles by pairing standard ballistic and energy rifles with short-range teleportation and telekinetic shockwaves. Featuring thirty single-player bot challenges alongside twelve-player online multiplayer across Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and Assault modes, the release marked a notable industrial milestone: a certified seventh-generation console network shooter co-engineered between Egyptian and Colombian studios for a first-tier international publisher.
