Tamatem Games (Pioneering Arabic Mobile Entertainment)

Ürdün · 2013 · studio

Tamatem Games, established in 2013 in Amman, Jordan by Hussam Hammo, is the premier mobile game publisher and culturalization engine across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Recognizing that less than 1% of digital gaming content catered natively to over 400 million Arabic speakers, Tamatem bridged this cultural chasm with chart-toppers like *VIP Baloot* and *Fashion Queen*, accumulating over 150 million downloads and securing major backing from Krafton and 500 Startups.

Founding Vision and the Arabic Language Void

Following participation in Silicon Valley's 500 Startups accelerator, Hussam Hammo recognized a staggering imbalance: the Arab world had the fastest-growing mobile broadband adoption yet virtually no high-quality localized titles. Tamatem rejected superficial text translation in favor of total culturalization, redrawing character assets, integrating regional vernaculars, and calibrating social monetization loops.

VIP Baloot and Traditional Card Hegemony

Tamatem achieved breakout success with *VIP Baloot*, digitizing the ubiquitous traditional trick-taking card game of the Arabian Peninsula. Featuring integrated voice chat, custom avatar robes, and regional competitive leagues, it became one of the highest-grossing mobile applications across Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Krafton Investment and Regional Leadership

In late 2021, *PUBG* creator Krafton led an $11 million Series B funding round into Tamatem. Establishing headquarters in Amman and Riyadh, Tamatem continues to act as the primary publishing gateway for international studios entering the lucrative Arabic mobile market.
