Remedy Entertainment
From Finnish Demoscene Roots to Max Payne, Alan Wake, and Cinematic Noir
Remedy Entertainment Oyj is an acclaimed Finnish video game developer founded in August 1995 in Espoo by veterans of the iconic demoscene crew Future Crew. Renowned for Max Payne, Alan Wake, Quantum Break, and Control, Remedy champions hard-boiled neo-noir narratives, atmospheric psychological thriller themes, and bullet-time gunplay.
Future Crew Foundations and the Birth of 3DMark
Remedy was established in a basement in Espoo by core members of Future Crew, creators of the PC demoscene milestone Second Reality. Following their top-down racer Death Rally (1996), the team spun off Futuremark to develop the 3DMark graphics benchmark utility, refining rendering code that powered Max Payne.
Sam Lake and the Remedy Connected Universe
Creative director and screenwriter Sam Lake shaped Remedy's signature literary pulp aesthetic. After redefining action with Max Payne, Remedy explored supernatural psychological horror in Alan Wake and paranormal brutalism in Control, formally linking their titles into the shared 'Remedy Connected Universe'.
