Mojiken Studio (Indonesia's Poetic Narrative Masters)

Endonezya · 2013 · studio

Mojiken Studio, founded in 2013 in Surabaya, East Java by Eka Pramudita Muharram and a collective of local illustrators, is an internationally celebrated pillar of Southeast Asian indie game development. Partnering with publisher Toge Productions, Mojiken crafted the dialogue-free grief parable *When the Past Was Around* (2020) and the universally acclaimed 1990s rural Indonesian coming-of-age masterpiece *A Space for the Unbound* (2023), securing a prestigious nomination for 'Games for Impact' at The Game Awards.

Mojiken Studio (Indonesia's Poetic Narrative Masters)

From Surabaya Art Collective to Mojikamp

Mojiken originated as an artisan illustration and visual development studio in Surabaya. To transition into interactive storytelling, the team instituted 'Mojikamp', internal game jam workshops challenging artists to code small-scale prototypes exploring vulnerability, memory, and Indonesian everyday routines.

When the Past Was Around: Wordless Grief

In 2020, Mojiken debuted *When the Past Was Around*, a bittersweet point-and-click puzzle adventure detailing a young violinist processing profound personal bereavement. Completely devoid of text, the game communicated psychological healing purely through Masdito Bachtiar's violin compositions and Brigitte Brenda's exquisite storybook linework.

A Space for the Unbound and Global Stardom

Released in January 2023, *A Space for the Unbound* emerged as an Indonesian masterpiece. Set in a lovingly rendered 1990s Javanese town, high schoolers Atma and Raya navigate impending apocalypse alongside poignant explorations of adolescent mental health and social isolation. Nominated at The Game Awards, the title stands as Indonesia's proudest narrative export.
