MachineGames (2009)
The Triumphant Rebirth of Wolfenstein, B.J. Blazkowicz, and Indiana Jones
Founded in 2009 in Uppsala, Sweden, by former Starbreeze Studios founders Jens Matthies, Jerk Gustafsson, and colleagues (creators of The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay), MachineGames revitalized id Software's legendary shooter franchise with Wolfenstein: The New Order (2014). Blending dual-wielding gunplay with profound cinematic pathos, the studio is now helming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
From Riddick Veterans to Wolfenstein: The New Order
Departing Starbreeze, the founding team pitched Bethesda a daring reimagining of id Software's progenitor franchise. Set in an alternate 1960s where the Axis won World War II, Wolfenstein: The New Order (2014) surprised critics by elevating protagonist B.J. Blazkowicz into a contemplative, tragic hero while delivering ferocious dual-shotgun gunplay.
The New Colossus and Indiana Jones
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (2017) deepened this cinematic mastery, winning Best Action Game at The Game Awards for its bold depiction of resistance in an occupied America. Entrusted by Lucasfilm Games and executive producer Todd Howard, MachineGames subsequently engineered the globe-trotting first-person cinematic adventure Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
