GIANTS Software (2004)
The Swiss Developer Behind Farming Simulator and the High-Precision GIANTS Engine
Established in 2004 in Zurich by Christian Ammann and Stefan Geiger, GIANTS Software is Switzerland's preeminent video game developer, creator of the blockbuster Farming Simulator franchise that has surpassed 30 million copies sold worldwide. Powering the franchise on their proprietary GIANTS Engine, the studio turned agricultural equipment simulation into an unlikely esports and mainstream gaming juggernaut.
The GIANTS Engine and Heavy Machinery Partnerships
Faced with specialized real-time physics requirements, Ammann and Geiger engineered their own GIANTS Engine to simulate terrain deformation, harvesting mechanics, and implement kinematics. Over 150 elite international agricultural manufacturers—including John Deere, Case IH, and CLAAS—partnered with GIANTS, supplying CAD data to replicate tractor cockpits down to the millimeter.
The Esports Phenomenon and Self-Publishing Autonomy
In 2019, GIANTS inaugurated the Farming Simulator League (FSL), a competitive esports championship where teams compete in timed harvesting and bale-stacking tactical matches. Transitioning from third-party distribution to full self-publishing autonomy with Farming Simulator 22, GIANTS became a towering beacon of Swiss software independence.
