Chroma Squad (2015)
Behold Studios's Tokusatsu and Power Rangers Homage: Tactical RPG and TV Studio Sim
Engineered by Brasília-based independent developer Behold Studios and released in 2015, Chroma Squad is an affectionate, witty tactical role-playing game and management simulation honoring Japanese tokusatsu and 1990s Power Rangers television culture. Casting players as five stunt actors who quit their arrogant director's production to launch an independent DIY television studio, players manage casting, craft foam costumes, sign sponsor deals, and choreograph turn-based grid battles to maximize broadcast viewership ratings.
Audience Viewership and Choreographed Teamwork
Combat effectiveness was tied to broadcast drama. Utilizing the 'Teamwork' stance, squad members flung teammates across the battlefield for flying kicks, executing cooperative multi-hero finishing moves that skyrocketed audience viewership meters to generate crucial advertising revenues.
Cardboard Mecha Battles and Legal Triumph
Studio funds purchased upgraded studio lighting, microphones, and crafted giant cardboard Mecha for climatic Kaiju end-of-episode showdowns. Following a mutually amicable credit agreement with Power Rangers owner Saban Entertainment, it became a beloved international indie classic.
