Zoetrope Interactive (Lovecraftian Cosmic Horror & Conarium)
Zoetrope Interactive, founded in 2005 in Istanbul by Galip Kartoglu, Onur Samli, and Oral Samli, is a dedicated boutique independent development studio specializing in cosmic psychological horror and the literary mythos of H.P. Lovecraft. Celebrated for the acclaimed investigative duology *Darkness Within: In Pursuit of Loath Nolder* (2007) and *Darkness Within 2: The Dark Lineage* (2010), the studio achieved international renown with *Conarium* (2017), an Unreal Engine 4 adaptation serving as an atmospheric sequel to Lovecraft's *At the Mountains of Madness*.
Founding Vision and the Darkness Within Duology
Founded by three Turkish creators committed to authentic adaptations of cosmic terror, Zoetrope debuted with *Darkness Within: In Pursuit of Loath Nolder* (2007). Centered on police detective Howard Loreid investigating an occult homicide, the game innovated with an interactive 'thought inventory' allowing players to cross-examine documentary clues, parse mental deductions, and confront progressive psychological decay.
Conarium and the Antarctic Madness
Published by Iceberg Interactive in 2017, *Conarium* realized the studio's grandest ambitions. Functioning as a canonical follow-up to Lovecraft's 1936 novella *At the Mountains of Madness*, the game put players in the frozen boots of scientist Frank Gilman inside the eerie Upuaut base in Antarctica. Utilizing Unreal Engine 4 to render cyclopean alien architecture and dimensional rifts, *Conarium* won 'Game of the Year' honors at the Video Game Awards.
Transient and the Cyberpunk-Lovecraft Fusion
In 2020, Zoetrope explored new conceptual terrain with *Transient*, fusing existential Lovecraftian themes with dystopian cyberpunk aesthetics in the enclosed domed citadel of Domed City Kor Shehr. Zoetrope Interactive remains one of the world's most enduring and literarily faithful horror specialists, representing an artisanal pillar of the Turkish indie movement.
