Peter Molyneux and Bullfrog's Amusement Park Business and Salty Fries Landmark

Birleşik Krallık · 1994 · game

Co-designed in 1994 by Peter Molyneux and teenage AI prodigy Demis Hassabis at Bullfrog Productions, Theme Park founded the amusement management subgenre, famous for custom rollercoasters and devious concession economics.

Theme Park Series

Molyneux, Demis Hassabis, and the Genesis of Park Sims

Peter Molyneux partnered with 17-year-old chess master Demis Hassabis (future founder of AI pioneer Google DeepMind) to engineer Theme Park. Downscaling SimCity's civic mechanics into amusement commerce, players laid pneumatic rollercoaster tracks, Ferris wheels, and bouncy castles while tracking individual visitor satisfaction meters.

Salty French Fries and Visitor Psychology

The game achieved cult acclaim for its wry capitalist satire: players could deliberately over-salt fast-food fries to artificially drive dehydrated guests into adjacent soda stands, while watering down soft drinks to inflate profit margins. Featuring mechanics where janitors swept up visitor vomit and faulty rides catastrophically exploded, it served as the direct inspiration for Chris Sawyer's RollerCoaster Tycoon.
