Scars Above (2023)
Scars Above, released on February 28, 2023, by Belgrade-based studio Mad Head Games and published by Prime Matter (Plaion), is a third-person sci-fi action survival-shooter. When a colossal alien megastructure dubbed the 'Metahedron' appears in Earth's orbit, the SCAR scientific team is pulled across hyperspace onto an uncharted exoplanet. Putting players in the role of astronaut and scientist Dr. Kate Ward, the game combines elemental combat with scientific deduction.
A Scientist, Not a Soldier: Dr. Kate Ward
Rather than casting an invulnerable military commando, *Scars Above* frames its survival mystery through astronaut Dr. Kate Ward. Armed initially with an electric cutting tool, Kate analyzes extraterrestrial biological specimens, parses xenobiological scans, and constructs improvised firearms from laboratory components.
Elemental Reaction Mechanics and Tactical Precision
Combat revolves around thermodynamic and chemical interactions. Players shatter frozen ice under aquatic predators with thermic rifles, electrocute drenched monstrosities with high-voltage arc charges, and ignite flammable caustic secretions. This elemental synergy rewards foresight over brute force.
Balkan Milestone in Global Console Publishing
As Serbia's premier cross-generational console action launch, *Scars Above* proved that Eastern European studios outside traditional AAA capitals could deliver polished, cinematic narrative action experiences across contemporary PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series hardware.
