Patrice Désilets (born May 9, 1974 in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec) is a French-Canadian game director and designer whose work reshaped modern third-person action-adventures. At Ubisoft Montreal he directed Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2003) alongside Jordan Mechner before conceiving and directing Assassin's Creed (2007) and Assassin's Creed II (2009), later co-founding Panache Digital Games to create Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey (2019).

Rewriting 3D Traversal From The Sands of Time to Assassin's Creed

Trained in film studies at the Université de Montréal before joining Ubisoft Montreal in 1997, Patrice Désilets rose to prominence directing Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2003) in collaboration with franchise creator Jordan Mechner, fusing rhythmic wall-running acrobatics with the Dagger of Time's real-time rewind mechanic. Tasked next with imagining seventh-generation console design, Désilets conceived and directed Assassin's Creed (2007) and Assassin's Creed II (2009)—pioneering crowd-blending 'social stealth,' contextual puppeteering parkour across meticulously reconstructed Crusades-era Levant and Renaissance Italy, and the Animus genetic-memory framework.

Creative Independence, Panache Digital Games, and Ancestors

Departing Ubisoft during production of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood in pursuit of auteur independence—and subsequently waging a landmark multi-year legal battle after THQ's bankruptcy to reclaim full intellectual property rights to his historical project 1666: Amsterdam—Désilets co-founded Montreal independent studio Panache Digital Games in 2014. Its debut release, Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey (2019), boldly eschewed minimap checklists to chart eight million years of African hominid evolution across canopy survival, tool discovery, and generational neural inheritance, reaffirming Désilets' lifelong fascination with human history and kinetic movement.
