Lies of P (2023)
Round8 Studio and Neowiz's Gothic Belle Époque Reimagining of Carlo Collodi's Pinocchio
Crafted in Seoul by Round8 Studio and published by Neowiz in 2023, Lies of P is a globally acclaimed dark fantasy Souls-like action RPG that ingeniously deconstructs Carlo Collodi's 1883 classic The Adventures of Pinocchio through the lens of a plague-ravaged Belle Époque metropolis. Awakening in the blood-drenched city of Krat, overrun by homicidal mechanical puppets and the horrifying Petrification Disease, players guide Geppetto’s creation P on a harrowing journey toward humanity. Featuring dynamic weapon blade/handle assembly, a modular mechanical Legion Arm, and a moral Lie system where deceit yields human warmth, Lies of P won three major honors at Gamescom 2022 and exceeded 1 million units sold in under a month.
Modular Weapon Assembly and the Lie System
A cornerstone innovation is the weapon craft system: detaching blades and handles allows players to combine heavy cleavers with rapier hilts, mixing movesets with dual Fable Art abilities. Choosing to lie in dialogues gradually sparks humanity within P’s mechanical core.
The Fallen Splendor of Krat and Critical Glory
Drawing architectural grandeur from 19th-century Parisian Belle Époque boulevards, Krat’s atmospheric level design and precision parry timings earned Lies of P widespread critical praise, firmly positioning South Korea at the forefront of the global Souls genre.
