Dual Software
The Pioneering Turkish Commercial PC Game Studio
Dual Software was a Turkish independent video game development team founded in 1993 in Istanbul by Boğaziçi University students Özgür Özol and Arda Kılıçdağı. They created Turkey's first commercially boxed PC game, Istanbul Legends.
Pioneering in Isolation
Operating without domestic development engines or established industry infrastructure in early 1990s Turkey, Özol and Kılıçdağı authored custom C++ and x86 Assembly graphics routines to engineer an isometric RPG engine.
Cultural Impact
Their boxed release distributed by Raks demonstrated the viability of indigenous Turkish interactive entertainment, inspiring subsequent generations of local game designers.
