Developed in Thessaloniki, Greece by independent studio Anima Interactive under director Anestis Kokkinidis and published internationally in 2003–2004 by GMX Media and Got Game Entertainment (as Nick Delios: Conspiracies), Conspiracies combined chroma-key footage of Greek live-action actors with pre-rendered 3D environments to become the first Greek adventure game distributed in international boxed retail.

Conspiracies — Nick Delios (2003)

Independent FMV Production in Thessaloniki and Chroma-Key Compositing

By the early 2000s, the full-motion video (FMV) adventure format popularized in the mid-1990s by series such as Under a Killing Moon, Phantasmagoria, and Gabriel Knight had largely receded from major Western publishing slates in favor of real-time polygonal 3D engines. Operating outside major publisher pipelines in Thessaloniki, independent Greek developer Anima Interactive—directed and scripted by Anestis Kokkinidis—revived the hybrid live-action detective model with Conspiracies (originally titled Νικ Δέλιος - Συνωμοσίες in Greek). Production filmed professional and local Greek actors in Greek against studio chroma-key backdrops, compositing the resulting video sequences into 360-degree panning pre-rendered 3D environments accompanied by original electronic and ambient musical scores. Shipped across three CD-ROMs as well as a higher-bitrate DVD-ROM edition, the project secured foreign distribution agreements despite the domestic turbulence surrounding Greek Law 3037/2002. European publisher GMX Media and North American adventure specialist Got Game Entertainment released localized editions featuring English dubbing and multilingual subtitles across Europe and North America in 2003 and 2004.

Cyberpunk Narrative Design, Branching Dialogue, and Industry Legacy

Conspiracies takes place in late-21st-century Thessaloniki after sovereign states have consolidated into a centralized global federation following systemic financial crises. Players assume the role of Nick Delios, a former top medical-software postgraduate researcher at the University of Thessaloniki whose career collapsed after a superior appropriated his research, leaving him working as a debt-burdened private detective. Hired to investigate an apparently routine homicide, Delios uncovers a multi-layered corporate espionage syndicate linking biomedical contractors and political power brokers. Mechanically, the game pairs classic inventory-combination logic puzzles and an in-game digital communicator interface with attitude-driven dialogue trees—allowing Delios to question suspects using polite, sarcastic, or confrontational tones that alter character cooperation and steer the narrative toward multiple distinct endings. Recognized in Southeast European game historiography as the first Greek commercial adventure title to attain multi-territory boxed distribution, the production established an enduring niche studio model for Anima Interactive, which released a direct sequel, Conspiracies II: Lethal Networks, in 2011.
