Championship Manager Series
The Collyer Brothers' Bedroom-Born Football Management Phenomenon
Created in 1992 by brothers Paul and Oliver Collyer, Championship Manager founded the modern football management simulation genre through tactical depth, text commentary, and a massive global scouting network.
From Shropshire Bedrooms to a Global Database
Coding in their bedroom in Shropshire, brothers Paul and Oliver Collyer favored raw tactical fidelity and player statistics over flashy 3D graphics. Released by Domark in 1992, the game grew rapidly through a worldwide network of voluntary football scouts who researched contracts, positions, and attributes for tens of thousands of active footballers.
The CM 01/02 Cult and the Eidos Split
Championship Manager: Season 01/02 became an immortal cult sensation, with fast-paced text commentary creating breathless tension during title deciders. When developer Sports Interactive split from publisher Eidos in 2003, Eidos retained the intellectual property name 'Championship Manager', while SI took their entire proprietary database and simulation engine to launch Football Manager.
