Asobo Studio (2002)
Creators of the 1:1 Earth in Microsoft Flight Simulator and A Plague Tale
Founded in 2002 in Bordeaux by Sebastian Wloch and 11 fellow creators, Asobo Studio is France's premier independent technical developer. Celebrated for the emotionally resonant medieval rat-swarm saga A Plague Tale (Innocence and Requiem) and engineering the photogrammetric 1:1 Earth simulation in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020).
A Plague Tale and the Swarm Technology
Debuting in 2019, A Plague Tale: Innocence followed noble siblings Amicia and Hugo escaping the Inquisition in 14th-century plague-stricken Aquitaine. Asobo engineered a proprietary rodent simulation rendering up to 300,000 light-averse plague rats simultaneously on screen, winning widespread international awards for emotional storytelling.
Microsoft Flight Simulator: Recreating Planet Earth
Partnering with Microsoft, Asobo spent five years engineering Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020). Synthesizing two petabytes of Bing Maps satellite imagery with Azure AI procedural terrain generation and real-time live weather feeds, it recreated the entire surface of Earth—encompassing 37,000 airports and 2 trillion trees—as a seamless playable globe.
